Three women shaped my life in ways they may never know. They taught me perserverance, hope, determination, love, and blessed me with beauty. I think they are the most beautiful women, both inside and out. So today my blog post is dedicated to them.

SUNDAY SHORTCUT GETTING OFF THE CRAZY TRAVEL TRAIN

Where did April go? After looking back at my travel calendar, I know why I don't remember much. What a blur!

I started the month out with a trip to Little Rock for Tobi Fairley's "Getting Published Camp".

Then it was back to Dallas for a 3 day e-book Conference. There is no way to make these hotel conference rooms chic....I am convinced.

Then back home for a few days before heading to New York for 2 days. What fun with Ronda Carman at Martha Stewart Omnimedia for the book signing of "Designers at Home". I also managed to fit in a mini-client meeting while in the city.

And don't forget my Curated Sale for Joss and Main this past week. What fun that was and thanks to all of you who shopped!!

I am finally home for a few weeks before leaving again and I am so grateful. I spent most of yesterday resting in bed and working on my laptop. I downloaded over 2000 images from my camera and wrote a Branding Presentation for my design firm. My favorite part of the day however was when my little ones came in at different times to snuggle and have long coversations about their lives.

I miss my family so much when I travel and Mr. M is a real trooper to hold down the fort while I am racking up the frequent flier miles. Here's to all those husbands who support us in pursuing our dreams. My man is the best.

I also spent time yesterday scheduling personal travel for summer. I am so excited about our upcoming trips and can't wait to spend time relaxing and enjoying friends and family.

There will be lots of beach time in my future and I can't wait for more travel to inspire me for new projects I have coming up. I am so grateful for my life and my amazing family. Need to start shopping for that ultra large beach hat to save my super-white skin!!

TRACI ZELLER DESIGNS NEW FABRIC LINE LAUNCH

I will be busy working in High Point this weekend at Spring Furniture Market. I can't wait to see all the great new trends in furniture and design. I am also super excited to be sharing the launch of my friend Traci Zeller's new fabric line while in High Point. If you are there for market, make sure you drop by Sunday to see everything Traci has created at 220 Elm in the Younger Furniture Showroom from 1:30 - 3:30!

The design on the invitation is one of Traci's new fabrics. Her line has great whimsy and glamour all in one happy package. I love how many designers have their own fabric lines and are promoting their brand through licensing and/or producing furniture, accessories, lighting, fabric and more.

Kudos Traci!! I also wrote this week about Traci and her collaboration with Lisa Mende on their showhouse room for the Junior League of Greensboro Traditional Home Showhouse HERE.

I am so inspired today by two incredible interior designers. I LOVE when my friends are sharing their talents and giving back all at the same time. Two of my dear interior designer friends (who I met through Tobi Fairley's Mastermind Group) have designed a room ON A DEADLINE for the Junior League of Greensboro Traditional Home Showhouse. Traci Zeller and Lisa Mende met during the past few years working with our mentor Tobi and have developed into great friends and even better collaborators.

Below is the sneak peek of the room these ladies have designed via a beautiful rendering by Patricia Van Essche.

If you have ever done a showhouse, you know how "Under The Gun" those projects can be. Borrowing or requesting discounts on products and furnishings. Purchasing items you need NOW - no waiting allowed. Arranging installations while working around 20 other designers. Having your room ready weeks in advance for photography. Constant changing of designs due to inavailablity of product. It's a little crazy.....no it's a LOT of crazy. And that doesn't even include the big financial investment.

But the rewards include recognition of your true style. An opportunity to design a room with full abandon. The ability to give back through donating your time and money to showcase your talent to benefit a charity. The chance to meet and work with other designers you may not know and learn from the comraderie that comes from working on a showhouse.

I NEED TO FEEL SAFE DO YOU

After the events in Boston yesterday and the tragedy that ensued there I just can't seem to find the words to blog today. And this morning, Little Miss M cried before she left for school. She wanted to feel safe and just wanted to stay home and snuggle all day.

Tragedies like the one at the Boston Marathon can shake us to our core and make us want to retreat. We want to retreat to our safe place. For my daughter, that safe place today was in her Mommy's arms just being hugged. For me, it's coming home each night and curling up on my sofa after tucking in my little ones. The lamp light is perfect. The candle is lit and my puppies are next to me. Mr. M is across the room and we are having easy conversation and everything is right in my world.

Yesterday, that was taken away for Little Miss M. She was scared. And scared that her Mommy was leaving town for another business trip. "Was that place close to where you are going Mommy"?, was her first question.

I hope you have time today to hug the ones you love and be grateful for the safety we have in our lives.

DESIGNED WITH A DEADLINE MY LIFE

I believe in the journey of my life. And it is TRULY a journey.

I have been traveling and working on becoming more of a student in my life and my career. One of the downfalls of Designing with a Deadline is my desire to move quickly. I have been working on slowing down and have invested several weeks this year to learning. This means sitting in a classroom or a hotel ballroom with lots of other students learning more about areas of my business I want to explore.

"The Journey to Getting Published" Camp with my mentor, Tobi Fairley last week was a great learning opportunity for me.

I am also working on my long-anticipated e-book on Designing with a Deadline. Something in my gut told me I wasn't ready to launch my book yet, so I am spending more time researching the best way to deliver my information to the design community and even further. Again, being a student is hard for me!!

One of the biggest challenges with traveling to take in all of this great info is that my exercise regimen has suffered. And so has my energy level. The flu hit my household this month and I began to let my appointments with my healthy lifestyle take a backseat.

So today, it's back up on the horse! A long walk with my pups. A healthy protein filled breakfast. Deep breathing along with prayer and meditation. The only way for me to design at the speed of light is for me to focus on taking care of me and this month I neglected that.

So if you ever feel like you have failed in your goals, I encourage you to get back up again with me! I am committed to being the best I can be for my family, my clients and all of you.

I have a BIG announcement I have been saving for this week, so make sure you tune in. I will be sharing some exciting news right before I leave for High Point Market.

I've been hearing the buzz all over town about Dwell with Dignity's Thrift Studio I wrote about HERE. While I have been away this week in Little Rock at Tobi Fairley's "The Journey to Getting Published Camp", things have been taking shape back in Dallas for next week's Thrift Studio event.
