DESIGN TIP OF THE WEEK CUSHION CONSTRUCTION

Posted by: Denise McGaha

Have you ever had an opportunity to sink into a cushy, down-filled sofa or chair cushion?  You know the feeling...you sink into it and ahhhh.  But, once you get up, an almost flat cushion in it's place, and the need to fluff.

Now don't get me wrong...I LOVE when I see a room styled with down cushions on the sofa...plump and fluffy.

But if you have a life outside of your home and don't have a butler to fluff every three hours, the hassle of fluffing sofa cushions gets really old after a while.  Instead, I always recommend a down WRAPPED cushion.  I do like it softer, but recommend a softer foam core and a down wrapped cushion.

Soft density foam core (1) is wrapped on top, front edge, and bottom with polyester fiber (2).  Unit is inserted in channeled down proof muslin casing (3).  Each section of top and bottom is filled with 50% polyester fiber, 35% waterfowl feathers, 15% white duck down (4).

So, there you go!  Shop for beauty and function when you are buying an upholstery piece for your home and get the best of both worlds when selecting your cushions.
