DESIGN INSPIRATION FABRIC FOR THE BACKSPLASH

Posted by: Denise McGaha

When designing the kitchen for our showhouse, I was looking for a bold punch that could be installed in no time.  This meant I needed a do-it-yourself type mentality and a great solution fast!  I often dream about my projects and this idea came to me when I was working on the mom's desk.  Why not create a fabric covered backsplash and then protect it with glass?  I chose an amazing outdoor chain-link fabric from F. Schumacher and their outdoor fabric from Trina Turk.  What a great start for our bright kitchen color scheme.

This way, you could change out the fabric when you were ready for a change, and also have a fun and functional design.

If you look closely, you can see the seams where the fabric was sewn and wrapped around a foam core and then we installed large glass panels on top.  The glass company screwed through the fabric and interior core and used large stainless steel standoffs to keep the glass floating off of the fabric about 1/4".  I got lots of great comments on the idea, but most importantly, it tied in the great Bertazzoni range.

Can't get any more fun than that!!!
